Tim’s striking blown and carved vessels draw the viewer to scenes reminiscent of sweeping Constable landscapes whilst his illuminated glass sculptures exude influences from the palette of Van Gogh.
Tim Shaw has three degrees in Glassblowing. After attaining his BA(Hons) from North Staffordshire Polytechnic in the UK in the early 80’s, he went on to study at the avant-garde Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam where he continued to develop and experiment creating a unique style of art glass.
Upon his return to the UK he established a hot glass workshop in London where he continued his artistic practice. His creative talent was recognised by his peers, and he was invited to undertake his second MA at the prestigious Royal College of Art London. Here he further refined and honed his glassmaking skills whilst pushing the boundaries of his artistic expression.
For the past 18 years Tim has resided in Australia where he operates his own hotglass workshop, one of the few independent studios in South Australia. His workshop is nestled amongst the Stringybark forests of the beautiful Adelaide Hills. In this idyllic and creative setting, Tim’s work has flourished absorbing an Australian influence, but many works still retain a European feel. His inspiration is most marked through his use of vibrant colour and his versatility. This can be seen in the striking cold worked vessels depicting scenes reminiscent of a Constable painting, whilst his illuminated glass sculptures and lights exude influences from the palette of Van Gogh. His passion for glass and his love of colour, surface decoration and texture captures the viewer and fires the imagination.
Throughout his career he has exhibited extensively, both Nationally and Internationally. His work resides in many prestigious collections in Australia the USA and Europe and many private collections worldwide.
