Crystal is one of those rare artists to have mastered the skills of both hot forming and casting glass. She creates thought provoking sculptures that explore the relationship between humans and the environment.
Crystal has worked as a professional glass artist since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours (Glass) at Monash University in 2002. In 2001 she was invited to assist Martin Blank at the Ausglass conference in Adelaide. She won a scholarship to attend the Dino Rosin Glass Workshop Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle, USA in 2002 and in 2004 she won a scholarship to attend the Pino Signoretto Workshop, Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle.
In 2005 Crystal set up her own studio in East Gippsland, Victoria where she has continued to make work for exhibitions both nationally and internationally including SOFA Chicago with Kirra Galleries for ten years.
Her work was much admired by collectors. Pieces of her sculptural works are held in private collections worldwide and public collections in Australia, including Latrobe Regional Art Gallery, the Gippsland Art Gallery and the National Art Glass collection in Wagga Wagga. She is currently the Director of the East Gippsland Art Gallery in Bairnsdale.
“Within my work I focus on creating stylised figures that are aesthetically coherent. Through the use of two unique glass techniques, this series explores the relationship between the human figure and structural shapes. The dialogue between people and their environment.”
